THEA 244: Stagecraft 4 Credit Hours
Description: Theory and practice of making, painting and using scenery for the stage. Practical work on University Productions. Includes a two hour lab.
Course Level Learner Outcomes: Students successfully completing this class:
Utilize critical thinking skills in order to synthesize diverse concepts into practical solutions to technical challenges found in the theater.
Demonstrate familiarity with the language and techniques used on stage and in theatrical production.
Demonstrate the skills needed to communicate information effectively and efficiently in both written and oral form.
Develop the skills to use the equipment and tools commonly found in scene shops and theatres.
Develop leadership skills necessary to accomplish the teamwork needed by a tech staff.
Perform hands on projects in a classroom, laboratory and production setting.
Work towards a more complete understanding of individual creative processes, styles and personal aesthetics.
SCENE SHOP DRESS CODE
WORK CLOTHES Long pants must always be worn. Expect that your clothes will be soiled with paint and grease and that they may be torn. Old jeans and tee shirts are ideal.
STURDY SHOES. Wear non-slip footwear. Athletic shoes work best. No open-toe or open-heel shoes.
The proper shop apparel is mandatory and subject to the discretion of the shop staff. No loose shirts. No extra baggie pants. These can become caught in or on equipment. No hanging or dangling accessories, these include ties, scarves, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.
Keep your hair out of the machines. Hats, nets, or hair ties are recommended.
You will be provided with earplugs. You are to wear your safety glasses at all times during lab and your earplugs while any power tool is in operation.
